The Governor’s Office and Department of Commerce want to double the tax on essential insurance products including long-term care insurance, private paid family and medical leave insurance, supplemental products that pay for expenses not covered by health insurance (e.g. coverage that pays for childcare, travel, bills for people who are missing work or need extra financial help due to an illness or an accident, etc.), dental and vision coverage, and long-term and short-term wage replacement products.

This new tax will take more money out of Minnesotans’ pockets, and will also have significant consequences for everyone from cancer patients to seniors to small businesses. It will make our state less competitive, and push more Minnesotans onto Medicaid.
